From Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Vaucluse), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

The cheese is wrapped in a case of chestnut leaves, held in place with raffia. Cheese makers gather the leaves in autumn when they fall off the trees. 

Banon goes well with crusty baguette, fresh fruits and a glass of dry white wine such as a Côte du Rhône or a Burgundy.
Paired with this cheese: fig confit, black cherry confit, a drizzle of olive oil and some Provence herbs.
